Have you notice the change in the taste of your favorite tea lately? As I have discovered, the taste of the 2 teas which I usually drank is not what it usually is. Taste felt “faded”. It might most probably be due to the change in the weather, with an increase in downpour. The high humidity could have altered the moisture level of the tea. Since tea is dried, it is very prone to absorbing the moisture from the air.

To add claims to my above statement, used tea has always been used as a drying agent in rice containers and even pillows. Imagine why tea is used instead of other agents.

Bought some tea which is supposedly to be about 41yrs old of age at the moment. Since its origin is unclear I decided to post how the leaves look like. On opening the packing, one could smell the smoke something similar to the smoking barrier smell, but of course its many folds down. On examining the leaves, its not hard to notice the long leaves and stems. Most of the leaves are black but you could see there are some red ones. There are also many long stems.

I was told of that this tea is never fails to make people sweat with its Cha Qi. However, even while making the tea, I have already started to sweat from the 2 power trips which I had caused due to short circuiting.

After the first inital washing brew, I took a smell at the tea leaves. Smell was very close to that of Yan Cha. The first mouth taste like a full bodied wine. As you swallow, it does no leave any after taste. But it does have a ending taste with the tea leaving your throat first followed by this unique Yan Cha taste. While writing this blog entry, I’m exciting waiting for the Cha Qi to come right on. Lets see if the Cha Qi is really that overwhelming in the next entry.

I was having tea at the usual tea shop when an experienced old timer spoke about the tea thickness. I have been wondering about this myself and was glad he was thinking the same as me. The thickness of the tea preference voiced down to individual but however some tea should be made thick while some can be made thin. Why so you might ask.

Personally I prefer thick tea, however I realise some tea are better when brewed thin. What we got out from the tea by making it thick is the taste of the tea (as in typical tea taste). However what we want to achieve is to be able to obtain a taste which make the tea unique from others by varying its thickness and concentration. Have you ever notice why some tea are made thin yet you can still taste the sweetness? Making thick tea is just like admiring a great piece of art with a magnifying glass. Not only the fantastic parts are magnified, so are the flaws. This is especially when the tea has a slight bitter after taste. Sometimes when they are made thicker, this after taste lingers longer just at the back of the tongue.

Brewing tea sure takes alot of effort, especially when it comes to bringing out the best of the taste in any tea. This is one skill which can only be learnt from experience.

I have been wondering what had they tasted in the tea but not me which got them so crazy about this tea. And I mean its not only them. Some others too are so drawn to this tea.

Finally I got the chance to realise the soul drawing taste. The first sip already spell a difference from all the other tea which I had tasted. The tea is smooth with the sweet dried longan taste. Although there are many tea out there that can give you the longan taste, but most of the time its not sweet at all. More of a bitter dry texture. This tea is certainly 1 level up its peers.

I have been waiting for this tea for quite sometime now and finally got to lay my hands on some just in for the Chinese New Year. Having said that, I was eagered to try it out so that I can share the review with the tea lovers out there. Some might had already tasted this tea before.

On the first sip, you could tell that its an aged tea. The sweetness of the tea tells u that it has been around many years to reach its current taste. It also has this ”old” dried longan taste which causes the mouth to slivate instantly with every sip . It might have tasted more fruity when it was young. Currently its the esscence that are left behind with the tea, maturing and drying over the years.

If I am to compare, I would say it might taste just like the Mu Ye Tun when it was still a young tea. Therefore I foresee that Mu Ye Tun to be able to mature to such a fine tea like De Hong with proper storage.

The golden soup of the makes looks really attractive. Yes I said golden soup. You might want to imagine to the boiling hot corn oil without the greasiness. I guessed many people would not think highly of an year old tea on top of the fact that its a cooked tea. But having tested the tea myself, it already gives me the confident it might turn out to be another Feng Qing or even better in time to come. The taste is already almost identical to Feng Qing already at this age. Therefore this gives me the confidence to bet on 2 pieces of this tea. The smoothness and easy to drink soup certainly leaves me asking for more during the testing. Hopefully in time to come, it would not disappoint me.

As the name of the tea would suggest, it does taste a little like Ba Bao Cha ( 八宝茶 8 Treasures Tea). However, its certainly not tat sweet. A mellow and easy to drink concoction with a taste richer than Feng Qing. A good tea is hard to come by and this is the last of whats left in the shop which I frequent. I did not purchase it but however “traded” for it with some Kwang Yun Tie Bing. Review for Kwang Yun Tie Bing coming up in the next blog entry.

Coming back to Liu Bao Cha, the tea leaves are very small black leaflets. One look you can tell its an aged tea. The soup base is more of darker but clear orange color. Though I do not have any negative comments about this tea, however its does not surprises me much as well.
